Aside from Valentines Day, there is this special day when friends, family, and lovers give each other chocolates, flowers, and cards. This day is known as Sweetest Day. Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of October. Like Valentines Day, this day is reveled with romantic deeds or expressions.
It was in the year 1922 in Cleveland when the candy employee and philanthropist, Herbert Birch Kingston touched the hearts of many people by his thoughtfulness and gallant deeds. He, along with two movie stars, Theda Bara and Ann Pennington, distributed over 20,000 boxes of candy to newsboys, orphans, old folks, and the poor in Cleveland, Ohio.
The history of the original Sweetest Day derived from a man’s “sweet” intention to do a little for the Cleveland’s orphans and less fortunate people. This was the beginning of the monthly celebration that had survived even during the miserable economic days of Great Depression. The said celebration started as regional holiday. As of today, the leading list in sales of Sweetest Day cards is the state of Ohio. Ohio is then followed by Florida, Texas and California.
Anything that is “special” could be suitable for gift or activity during Sweetest Day. There are many interesting and creative ways to express your love and affection towards you loved ones. Surprises will always create candid and memorable moments.
